Sometimes the tactics used are borderline insane. This article is about the second thing that you must not do if you want to have a chance at reconciling your broken intimate relationship. Do not tell them that you will change, at least not at first.
The statement, "I will change and do whatever you want if you will just stay", is probably one or the most common responses to a break up. It is usually blurted out when the person on the receiving end of the breakup reaches the level of panic. And I can understand that. Most of the time it comes out without even a thought. However, this is one of the worst things that you can say in order to save a relationship.
Why? I asked the same thing when I heard this statement. Because, most likely you have had problems over the years like most people and each time you had a fight with each other someone said, "I will change". Then each of you got all mushy and lovey dovey and everything was fine...at least for a while. Then you had the argument all over again and the same thing happened again and again and again. Until someone finally figures out or gets the impression that this is just a fake, desperate tactic said to bring you back together for another round of the same mess.
So do not say you will change. It is a desperate attempt to save the relationship and it just will not work at this point. Not after someone has left. It is one of the steps that you absolutely must avoid at all costs if you want to save a relationship
